The three renunciations

Look at this section of the Cassian books.

Wikipedia has a good overview article on John Cassian, with this surprising (to me) little revelation:

His works are excerpted in the Philokalia (Greek for "Love of the Beautiful"), the Eastern Orthodox compendium on mystical Christian prayer.


Of his two major works it would seem his Conferences would be the most interesting.

How 'Eastern Orthodox' can Cassian and his writings be if he is also listed as Roman Catholic (pre-Reformation days obviously) and also as Celtic Christianity? I.e. I've always had a bit of mental dissonance when being forced to think of those Philokalia writings as uniquely Eastern Orthodox, or the Work for that matter as well...
